This special exhibition features five very special photographers who capture a diverse range of imagery related to club and dance music culture. Shoot To Thrill: Picturing New York’s Underground Dance Music Culture 1977-1999 reveals an exciting body of work by photographers Bill Bernstein, Tina Paul and Alice Arnold. These photographs were taken at legendary nightclubs such as: Studio 54, Paradise Garage, Sound Factory, and Shelter. Violetta Markelou: Images from Afro Punk Festival brings the viewer front-and-center to the colorful playground in Brooklyn, NY where the creatively fashionable are let loose to party and be discovered by the camera. Amidst the music of Punk, Electronic and African sounds, Violetta captures her subjects in all their profound glory. Using his camera to explore the abstract beauty and movement of the dancing form are the works of Yassine El Mansouri. This edition of four images entitled Order, 2008 engages the viewer in a visual conversation about the spirituality found in the body-in-motion.
